James E Valle was approaching the end of his life. He knew this because he had the sad fact shoved in his face every morning at 6:03, when his alarm clock rudely woke him up, informing him that "Wake, up, Sunshine, the -th day of the -th year of your life awaits you!", and continued screaming this fact until, usually about ninety minutes later, when James was finally ready to get up and shut the blasted thing up. The alarm clock was a peculiar object that ran on- well, actually James had no idea what exactly it ran on, but the point was that it certainly didn't run on The End Of The Beginning
